Hi there! My name is Peachkin Doubleknot. A bit strange huh? But probably not so much as if I was named Billy or Joey, Betty or Sue which are the kind of names our grandparents were stuck with. Yep! Peachkin has quite a ring to it, a real attention grabber.  But so much for my name, let’s talk about important things.

Peachkin Doubleknot is a collection of children’s stories to help kids make their way through the many challenging issues they face growing up. The first two books, All About Black & White and All About Me & Maybe You, Are available in a digital format for download CLICK HERE.

My first book, "All About Black and White", has to do with skin color discrimination. Book two, "All About Me & Maybe You", deals with growing up in a not so perfect family. Other topics include, Children with physical and mental challenges, called, "All About Carson". Questions about, "Where Did I Come From", a look at the different teachings between Science and Religion, "All About Sammy" judging children on perceived abilities and "Gone For Now", dealing with the death of a friend or family member. Adults tend to minimize the effects of these and other issues on children. The truth is, children often deal with these issues by themselves, without the experiences, maturity and support that most adults have. Hopefully, Peachkin can be that support through the long years of childhood.

A Small Sampling From:  All About Me & Maybe You

Now families come in every size and color, and sometimes it can change all around depending on all kinds of things. Take my family for instance. If you only had one parent at home, once you were old enough to realize that a family normally came with two parents, a mom and a dad, you begin to wonder how you got short changed. Sometimes it is because of someone dying. That’s really a  hard one. You spend your life wondering what it might have been like if that hadn’t happened. Or like me, where my dad left before I was born. Some of you might not even know who your dad is. Not so unusual these days. Most animals are more responsible than a lot of people. And yet you still wonder what was more important than you. Did they ever think about you, why do I have this hole in my life that can’t be filled even if I am lucky enough to have that hole occupied by someone else. The hole is still there.

And then there is my favorite one. So-called adults that have their own lives so screwed up that you have to fill in as the responsible person even though you’re just a kid. I have a friend that is eight. She takes care of her younger brother and sister because mom is strung out on drugs and dad is in jail for hurting mom. Go figure. If I acted like that I would be grounded for life! But for some reason, us kids just seem to know better, like we were born with it. I guess it takes growing up before you can really mess up your life. Life is short, so they tell me. But it can’t be too short or you and I wouldn’t exist, right? I just wish it wouldn’t be so hard sometimes. It makes me cry. I don’t know why, it just does.

All About Black & White
by
Dennis Fluhrer

Dedicated to my grand and great grandchildren that add color and an international flair to my family. The Peachkin Doubleknot series is designed to deal with the, not so comfortable subjects, of growing up in a less than perfect World.

Children have an innate sense of right and wrong, what makes sense and what doesn’t. Peachkin simply points out, what, to them is obvious. If we adults could only remember to practice the innocence, love and compassion of childhood.

Dedicated to all children everywhere, current and past that are or have grown up in a what we can call a non traditional family.  It seams in todays World, having a two parent, stable and loving home life is the exception, not the rule.  I should know. By the time I was sixteen my mother had been married four times, thus the title; "All about Me & Maybe You". I can't help getting emothional  everytime I read it'. It is my hope that you can join with me to place copies in every women's shelter, family group home, foster care programs and schools, with the hope of touching the lives of  the  many children that feel alone.

About
What People are Saying

All About Me and Maybe You
Peachkin is so cute and really reminds you of what it was like to be a kid, not all families are the same, even though sometimes you think they are. It does a good job of addressing loss of family members, and he tackles big issues that are usually harder for kids to understand in a more simple and fun way.

My Story

The great thing about me is that I am just like you and millions of other people that have populated this Earth for thousands of years. I was born, lived and will die and along the way I have experienced life too it’s fullest. So why at seventy-six am I writing children’s books? I wish I could take the credit. It was sometime in the middle of March, 2021, when an impression came into my mind that I needed to write a children’s story to help kids with many of the issues I lived through as a child. The first attempt actually generated two books and the unusual character of “Peachkin Doubleknot”. Believe me, I’m not smart enough to create this on my own. I have been blessed, with not only many challenging experiences, but a knack for writing interesting stories, some of which I have included, for your consideration, on this WEB site. It is my hope, that through this series, Peachkin will touch hearts, strengthen lives, provide hope and change the minds of millions by seeing life through the eyes of a child.
