Team sports, for kids, is a wonderful thing. But sometimes the adults become so involved with winning they lose sight of the bigger picture, the kids. The year I volunteered to couch my son’s baseball team was a real eye opener. Most of the teams had been pre-selected long before the season ever started, packing certain all-star teams with the most experienced boys. By the time I volunteered, the only players left were the ones no one else wanted. I have a special place in my heart for Sammy. When I was about his age my mom and I also lived in an old motel. It’s amazing how life can come back around and meet us, when we least expect it.
